Bengkulu beaded boxes

Sized from 0-13. These beaded dowry boxes are roughly 70 years old and one of a kind. They were made by the bride-to-be when in her teens, in preparation for her wedding day. She would keep her personal articles suck as makeup in the smaller boxes; the medium boxes were used for wedding foods and cakes, and thus lined with banana leaves. This was all part of the bridal procession to the groom's house. Therefore the boxes are very colourful as well as ceremonial. Designs will vary due to individual workmanship.
